Thieves' Highway - 1949 - 3 Stars

Actors: Richard Conte, Valentina Cortese
Director: Jules Dassin

I'm never sure how films like Thieves' Highway end up on my queue, because I've never heard of this movie before. Whatever the case - Thieves' Highway features some cool camera work and an interesting look at how markets function. However, the plot really makes no goddamn sense at all - it seems to be about a working-class son bent on avenging his father by selling apples at a fair price - and the characters' motivations are quite ridiculous. There's far better classic films than this one.

  1. Wow, what an inept, immature and shallow reviewer. I am stunned at how bad.
Maybe you thought you were watching THEIVES HIGHWAY, but were watching something else. If you weren't, you missed a lot, a whole lot.
You even missed the story itself, now that I think of it.
    Go back to sleep.

  2. i didn't miss very much, and i read several reviews after i wrote this one. i also tend to leave spoilers out, especially for a film like this that none of the 5 people that read this will have seen.

the plot is horrible and riddled with enormous holes that the style elements and lee j. cobb being awesome cannot overtake. i can see how this movie would strike someone as something special, but it did not strike me that way.
